How Let’s Do It World tackles pollution on a global scale with the help of Pipedrive

Since 2011, the Let’s Do It movement has engaged more than 70 million people from around the world to take part in environmental clean-ups and tackle the global waste crisis.

The first World Cleanup Day was organized by Let’s Do It Foundation, then in 2019 the organization was reorganized and since then World Cleanup Day has been run by Let’s Do It World.

World Cleanup Day’s history

The history of World Cleanup Day goes back to 2008, when the first Estonian Cleanup Day (called Let’s Do It!) was organized. On that day, 50,000 people cleaned Estonia in just 5 hours.

From there the movement grew: the first global cleanup campaign was organized in 2012, with 96 countries participating, after which the event became officially known as World Cleanup Day in 2018. For the first time in history, people around the world were cleaning up the planet on one day.

Having created a strong global network of activists with a continued interest in making positive change, the Estonian originators formed Let’s Do It World NGO in 2019, an organization dedicated to continuing the World Cleanup Day campaign and bringing people together for the waste-free world.

With members in 164 countries and relationships with governments, organizations and individuals in many others, Let’s Do It World is able to bring huge amounts of people together to tackle the waste problem.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, 191 countries and territories took part, which is an absolute record. The last record was 2019, pre-Covid, when 180 countries and 21 million people participated in global-wide action. 16 countries reached significant individual records (they had the highest number of participants during the last four years of World Cleanup Days).
World Cleanup Day is now almost everywhere in the world – to reach 191 countries they almost all have to be participating – and where World Cleanup Day wasn’t represented there were other initiatives, for example, #EUbeachcleanup, or the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup™, so basically we can say that all the countries organized different kinds of cleanups.

World Cleanup Day and Let’s Do It World’s mission

Let’s Do It World has two main goals.

  1. The first is to help make the environment cleaner by organizing millions of people around the world to remove pollution from forests, rivers, parks, oceans and other environments. This especially helps in areas where there is no existing waste collection process.

  2. But there is an even more important aspect to World Cleanup Day: Let’s Do It World knows prevention is better than cure, so while cleaning up helps restore the environment, their long-term goal is to reduce and ultimately eliminate the waste that ends up polluting the environment.

By engaging with people from around the world, Let’s Do It World is aiming to put the global waste crisis in the spotlight by raising awareness about how it affects us all.

World Cleanup Day isn’t the solution for the waste crisis, it’s about raising awareness. Our aim is to engage at least five percent of each country’s population to start the transformation in societies. This five percent is the scientifically proven tipping point to catalyze a change in society and provoke discussion, what we should do in order to prevent waste and to tackle the waste problem.
We have to dramatically reduce consumption and think about how we use resources and consume, how we live in harmony with nature. Our final destination is a waste-free world that is not a utopia or a dream, this is a doable reality if we work together.

Let’s Do It World’s happiness index

World Cleanup Day’s success relies heavily on the efforts of partners and leaders in countries all around the globe. To make sure the leaders feel connected to World Cleanup Day, Let’s Do It World uses a happiness index.

We ask our leaders three questions, scoring out of 10:
  1. Please rate how impactful and meaningful is the work you are doing as a leader?

  2. How strongly do you feel that you belong to the LDIW movement and network?

  3. How much deserved recognition do you receive for your work (from your community, colleagues, media, government, other leaders, etc.)?

The happiness index must be over 8. So far it has been.

How Let’s Do It World uses Pipedrive to organize World Cleanup Day

Managing ongoing relationships with leaders and organizations from around the globe is vital in ensuring consistency for Let’s Do It World. Regardless of whether it’s a paid employee or a new volunteer connecting with a contact, they need to understand the history of the communication.

By using Pipedrive’s cloud-based software, Let’s Do It World can keep centralized, up-to-date records of communication with all their contacts. The team can make sure they don’t waste time sending or requesting the same information twice while keeping their communications mistake-free.

To focus on making positive change, Let’s Do It World minimizes time spent on repetitive admin tasks and working across multiple programs.

The team can focus on making changes to their centralized database on Pipedrive, with integrations automatically updating their website with the new information.

Plus, with apps allowing them to sync their information within Pipedrive to Mailchimp, they can save a huge amount of time when marketing World Cleanup Day, meaning they can focus more of their efforts on saving the environment.

We’d need to do a project with a country and we’d be saying, What have we done with this country before? We’d spend a lot of time mapping the situation with that particular country or leader, it was really time-consuming and there were still mistakes. I believe that Pipedrive helped us organize our work and minimize so many jobs that weren’t actually necessary.
Pipedrive is a tremendous help in organizing such a large movement as Let’s Do It World. We have the information in one place and there’s no confusion. We have synced Pipedrive with our website, which means that we’re keeping Pipedrive updated if leaders or partners change – it automatically applies the change to our website. Pipedrive is the heart of all our data. If we make a change in Pipedrive, it’ll update other places.
What we also use are massive mailings to the countries and partners. We have connected Pipedrive with Mailchimp so it’s really easy to make some changes in Pipedrive and have it already applied in Mailchimp. I’d like to express a huge amount of gratitude to Pipedrive, as Pipedrive has provided us the opportunity to use this program and make our work much more efficient.
