New York, 30 June, 2022 - Pipedrive, the global sales-first CRM and revenue management platform for small businesses, today announced the start of a unique internship and mentoring program, Summer School of Code. Specifically designed to find future tech talent, 11 carefully selected candidates, out of 241 applicants, have just embarked on their journey in the tech industry.
According to Mykhailo Dorokhov, a software developer at Pipedrive and a mentor at the summer school, the program is mutually beneficial. “The content of the experimental summer school is based on the technologies used at Pipedrive on a daily basis and allows participants to experience first-hand how to put the theoretical knowledge they learn into practice. As an employer, the program allows Pipedrive to explore whether the learning incubator is a good solution for finding future tech talent and understand the typical challenges that junior developers encounter during their first job,” explained Dorokhov.
Interest in the Pipedrive summer school was higher than expected. “We opened the application process a little later than planned and in less than three weeks we received 241 applications. Since day one, we received approximately 14 applications per day and on average there were 22 candidates per spot. While the Summer School of Code is a unique internship program and we do not compete with local universities, we are humbled and honored by the fact that it has gained as much following as some of the most popular programs in local universities,” Dorokhov added.

A strong focus on self-development and no need for previous IT experience or a degree immediately caught the attention of Egle Tannenberg, one of the participants at the Summer School of Code. “Even before applying for a spot in the school, I had already decided to make a change in my life and pursue a Bachelor’s degree in computer science. But then Pipedrive’s Summer School of Code caught my eye. There are countless options available online for self-learning, but I like the idea of having some structure in my studies and the possibility to put my new knowledge immediately into practice,” said Tannenberg.
“My first impression of the work environment is very positive. The portraits of the Presidents of Estonia and encyclopedias in the corner of a kitchen make me feel as if visiting my Grandma’s home but in some surreal parallel universe. I knew that Pipedrive is an international company, but I was still surprised by how culturally diverse the organization is. This is a big bonus for me as I have always been fascinated by getting to know other cultures,” continued Tannenberg.
Pipedrive Summer School of Code is a three-month-long summer program intended for people interested in an IT career and with little-to-no experience in software development. This is the first pilot project in the company's history and the main aim is to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience. The first class of the summer school started at the end of June and will last until mid-September. In addition to this program, Pipedrive will continue with joint collaboration projects and internship programs with local universities.
11 participants out of 241 have joined Pipedrive Summer School of Code, taking their first steps in the tech world. A high school graduate, former police officer/ certified football referee, chef, construction business specialist and an actual Pipedrive user are among the interns. In addition to Egle Tannenberg, Annabel Pugi, Gloria Krieger, Kristen Kuldmaa, Maksim Ramazanov, Rainar Razumovski, Risto Vatsar, Sakina Ibrahimova, Sazzad Hossain, Sirli Kont and Ingrid Otsa will also attend.
